Shock*Top

There are some things that are so easy to shoot that first, they're a pleasure and second, it's almost like stealing.  Some of those are, in my  mind, sunrises, sunsets, some architecture, lots of things from nature and this, neon, but there you are.  They're still fun and somebody had to think of it.  In this case, of course, it's me so here you go.

restaurant Spring

This, too, I enjoyed the results.

While not perfect, in a way, to me, and part of a much different group though shot at the same time, I liked how the sunset played on the flowers.  I loved the light and color against the near-black table background.  Just a nice result to me.

sunset II

Part of a/the series.  I really enjoyed how these turned out--the play of light on everything.  Diagonal, geometric, mathematical but natural sunlight, nonetheless.

sunset

Most of me just wants to shut up and have you decide what this is and how it was created.

So I''m going to stick with that.

Old grass, new fence

I shot this in my neighborhood in Smithville at the end of March.  I saw it earlier in the season and meant to get it before this.  I was struck by the coincidence that this new fence and last season's pampas grass were the same color.  Being the beginning of Spring, there hasn't been that much color.  The rich, deep gold of it stood out in the area.

Spring sunset II

I had a lot of fun with this and with several shots of this that I think turned out well.  The sun was flooding in the blinds and I loved the patterns it created.

Enjoy your Sunday, y'all.

Check this out

This was the oddest thing.  This was about the 2nd week of March this year so last month and these guys--about 15 of them--were all right in the city, Independence, just a few blocks from our office.  I shot this as I do so many things, on the way to work in the morning.  Just odd.  Anyway, it was fun and you know I just had to immediately stop and shoot.

Spring sunset

I was with friends last evening and saw this light--late day sun coming through the blinds, of course, and loved how it played on the table and walls.  I got up a few times to shoot it, again and again, as it changed.  I loved it and how a few of these turned out.

Have a great weekend, y'all.

Sunrise, Spring in the city

golden

I shot a series of these this evening in Westport at 303 on Westport Road.  I totally got into how the light was streaming in through the blinds.  I enjoyed how it turned out.

Spring prep

Shot just South of Smithville and Smithville Lake at the end of last month.

April dogwood

I'm a sucker for dogwood trees and their brilliant bloom and flowers in Spring, like most of us, I guess.  I just can't shoot them enough.  These were in Brookside this weekend.

Sunrise on the lake II

Again, Smithville Lake on the way to work, March 16 this year.  It started out misty and soft but became a brilliant, beautiful day.

Palm Sunday

I shot this this past Sunday at Visitation Catholic Church on Main Street here in town.  I was driving by, saw the red fabric and couldn't pass it up.  Admittedly not my best work but I still thought it worth keeping.

sunset

This, as you may have guessed, is the new and soon to be opened later this year Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.  I drove by at sunset and loved what the color was doing on the building.

majestic

Every once in a while, at least, if you're lucky, you get a shot that turns out so well, you're excited and pleased with it and feel sure you did a pretty good job and you quietly pat yourself on the back about it and go on down the road.  For me, this is one such photo.  It's not completely, totally unique or unexpected but I just liked the results.  It came about after walking around this New York Life building downtown, up and down the street a little while, looking for different, good angles.
It is the new headquarters, I believe, for the local Catholic Diocese. I hope they're good to this old building.  We all know it's magnificent and a fantastic, old treasure of the city.

Late Winter sunrise

Also shot, once again, on the way to work, just around Smithville last month (March 16, to be exact).  I've shot this same drive to "the farm" several times (if you've been paying attention).  With the frost, I thought it nice.

accidental brilliance

Okay, I have to 'fess up on this one.  I was trying to shoot this car going by that had 2 children in the back seats who were each watching televisions mom and dad had supplied in order to keep the kids quiet on what must have been a long trip.  The idea disgusted me, frankly, and I thought I might blog about it.  Instead, I got this shot and I have to say, just for the color alone, I like how it turned out.  I can't claim I knew what I was creating, of course, but still, it was this artist's result so here you go.

Sunrise on the lake

I shot this mid-March last month, exactly one month ago because it was the morning of the 16th, on the way to work.  As always, to date, if it's here and it's a lake, it's Smithville Lake, North of here.  It was a mild, misty morning and I loved the scene on the lake and how this turned out.

last light

This is Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church on Main Street, just down from Il Centro and eggtc. restaurants.  I shot it last month--a few weeks ago.

downtown arts

I shot this within the last two weeks, before we got any real sun.  It's downtown, of course, at the convention center, looking out to the new, nearly finished Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.  I liked how it all turned out.  I also tried posting it about a week ago and it just wouldn't work for whatever reason.

blue

Shot this winter in North Kansas City.  I was driving by this apartment complex and liked the geometry of it all.  Naturally, it reminds me of Joni Mitchell:

Blue

Blue
songs are like tattoos
You know I've been to sea before
Crown and anchor me
Or let me sail away

(great song)

Have a terrific day, y'all

heat

Taken a few years ago in Chicago, at lakeshore.

I love Chicago.

I put this up for vfxy's weekly theme: heat.

Have a great weekend, y'all.
